If the validity of your 30-day visa stamp is running out or your Thai visa is about to expire then don’t worry as it can be extended at Thai immigration. There are several Thai visa extension options available to prolong your stay in Thailand.

Depending on the type of visa that you are holding, you can proceed with any of the two extension schemes below as you deemed appropriate and necessary:

Thai Visa Extensions1. Extension at the Immigration Office – If you are holding a tourist visa (30-day stamp, 60-day tourist) or a Non Immigrant visa, you can visit Thai immigration to extend your visa. The 30-day stamp visa is entitled to a 7-day extension while a normal Thai tourist visa is qualified for a 30-day visa extension at a fee of 1,900 THB. Note that the marriage visa can be extended into a Non Imm O-A or Thai retirement visa as long as the applicant meets the requirements (finance and age). The same holds true with a 90-day Non B Visa which can be extended in to a One year Non B Visa as long there is enough supporting documents and a valid work permit. Note that these need 30 days to process so dont leave it for the last minute.

The Thai Visa Extension at the Immigration Office entails personally going there to submit your application and documents and paying an extension fee pegged at THB 1,900.

2. Visa Run – You can also take a minivan which will take you to the land border or take a plane to fly you to another country and obtain a new Thai visa (visa run) at either Thai consulate or at the airport when you arrive to Thailand. If you take the border route, be informed that border immigration only provides 15-day visa while if you take the plane you can get a 30-day visa anew upon your arrival at the airport.

The obvious catch of this scheme is costlier transportation fee and not to mention the physical exhaustion from the trip.

If you think you would need assistance to carry out the above extension options, feel free to call a Thai visa expert or visa run agencies to guide you. If you are in Phuket or elsewhere in Thailand, call GAM Legal Alliance for immediate assistance.
